National Dispelling the Myth Award
Ware Elementary selected for a national “Dispelling the Myth Award” sponsored by
Education Trust, Inc., recognizing the top four schools in the nation with the highest
correlation between challenging demographics and high achievement.

2007 Governor’s Achievement Award
Ware Elementary received the 2007 Governor’s Achievement Award for top performing schools in
the State of Kansas.

Ware Elementary Receives Governor's Achievement Award
The Governor’s Award is a new recognition program established by the Kansas State Board of Education. Schools selected for the honor must have: (1) achieved the Standard of Excellence in both reading and math; (2) made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both reading and math and one additional measure (i.e. attendance); and, (3) have been among the top 5% in both reading and mathematics on the 2006 state assessments at its respective level.
 

Ware Elementary Named Title 1 Distinguished School
 The National Association of State Title I Directors (NASTID) announced on November 16th —to coincide with National Education Week— their 52 selected Title I Distinguished Schools (representing 28 states). These academically outstanding schools have risen above obstacles of poverty with the help of the Title I program. They were selected for outstanding results in one of two categories: 1- Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years or, 2- Closing the achievement gap between student groups.  These schools will be honored at the annual distinguished schools award ceremony at the NASTID annual conference in Dallas, Texas in January 2006.

Ware Elementary Named a Blue Ribbon School
Ware Elementary has been selected as a 2005 No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.  Ware, now the fourth USD 475 school in the past three years to be named a Blue Ribbon School, joins ranks with Custer Hill, Jefferson and Sheridan Elementary.  Eligible schools are nominated by the state’s Chief State School Officer based on recommendations from a committee of educators that have reviewed Kansas schools based on students’ performances on state assessments.  Receiving the Blue Ribbon Award identifies the school as a national model of excellence.

Lisa Akard Recognized as American Star Teacher by
U.S. Department of Education

The U.S. Department of Education’s René Islas was at Ware on Wednesday to present Mrs. Akard, a fourth grade teacher at Ware, with the award.  The entire student body and staff, as well as, many other dignitaries were on hand for the presentation.

NATIONAL SCHOOL CHANGE AWARD TO WARE ELEMENTARY
  Ware is one of six from across the United States honored with a 2005 National School Change Award.  This award recognizes schools that have made significant improvements from being an underperforming school to becoming exemplary.
